This week we have Vincent Price, a scary cook-along and eBay finally does something right, even if it is just a copy of Pinterest!
Does anyone else remember that Sesame Street character, Vincent Twice? No? Well, as a kid he was one of my favorites! I think he hosted the Mystery Theater. I used to walk around the house muttering to myself, “I’m your host, Vincent Twice Vincent Twice.”
And what does that have to do with Mid-Century Menu and eBay? Well, in a few weeks I am going to be participating in a Vincent Price Halloween Cookalong hosted by Jenny at Silver Screen Suppers. I am really, really excited about it. Not only is it going to be completely awesome, but Victoria Price (Yes! Vincent’s daughter!) is going to be cooking along with us.
It sort of blows my mind a little.
So, in honor of that and of the upcoming Halloween season (in my opinion, the most wonderful time of the year!) we are doing a quick little round of up Vincent Price cookbooks on eBay:
A Treasury Of Great Recipes Vincent Price First 1st Edition 1965
Why I Want This: This book is pretty much the Holy Grail of Vincent Price cooking. I’ve run across a few copies before, but haven’t yet bit the bullet and bought one. Mostly because they are always so darn expensive. But one of these days…it will be mine!
Vintage 1969 Mary And Vincent Price Come Into The Kitchen Cookbook
Why I Want This: There are several covers of this book, but this one with it’s carpet square cover (what the?) is the prettiest, in my opinion!
Vincent Price International Cooking Course LP Dining at Versailles 1977
Why I Want This: Apparently there is a whole collection of these audio cookbooks narrated by Vincent Price! I didn’t even realize that they existed until this moment, but now I want them…so bad!!!!
eBay List Update!
So, this week when I went to update my Wishlist, I got a pleasant surprise from eBay. I know, unusual, right? Anyway, apparently eBay has launched a Pinterest-like program called “Collections” where you can curate a fun pictoral list of eBay finds AND make comments on your finds! I have pretty much been having a blast with it. And making tons of comments along the way!
My eBay Collections: Vintage Cooking Galore!
As of writing this I have four collections, but I am sure that I will have more very soon. So come on over and check it out. And let me know if you are using this feature of eBay. Apparently you can “follow” other people’s collections, but I haven’t found any yet to follow!
Oh, and if you want to check out some more awesome eBay kitsch picks, check out the post on my other blog, No Pattern Required!
*Disclaimer: Mid-Century Menu is part of the eBay Partner Network, and that means that when you click on our eBay links we may earn a very small commission.
My mind is blown. I didn’t know about Vincent Price’s cookbooks!
I am SO EXCITED! I love Vincent Price!!!
I didn’t know Victoria Price was going to be in on it! How fun. :o) Love love love Vincent Price.
I can’t believe it! My mother actually had this cookbook. I’m sure it ended up in a Goodwill box somewhere.
My mother knew Vincent through her connection with Julia. I do remember them visiting our home. One of my treasured items is a couple of the price’s cookbooks autographed with nice notes to my mother. As a very young child at the time, I asked him to scare me. He said that it was his night off to enjoy a meal, then in the middle if the meal terrified me as he got up to use the facilities and went behind my chair.
Oh MY! I cannot wait for the cook along! and VICTORIA PRICE! Did you see the recipe i got?? MWAHHAHAHAHAHHA HA HA HA (EVIL LAUGH for the one that has to eat it!)
The ebay collections looks fun – I need to check it out.
I can honestly say that The Treasury of Great Recipes is the best cookbook in the world. You will NEVER regret buying a copy of this no matter what it costs!
Vincent also wrote a cookbook called Cooking Price-Wise to accompany a cookery show he presented in the UK in the 1970s. I have NEVER seen a copy on ebay – they are as rare as hen’s teeth. Luckily, my lovely friend Matthew gave me a copy but it is very, very dogeared and poor Vincent’s face on the cover is a little rubbed off but I cherish the book.
There is a nice write up about it here – http://horrorpedia.com/2013/01/06/cooking-price-wise-tv-seriesbook/
Soooooooo looking forward to the cookalong! Jenny x
Oh my gosh!! I am so jealous! I love Vincent Price, and you get to cook with his daughter! Please give her our regards. I have two Vincent Price cookbooks, The Treasury of Great Recipes, and Come Into the Kitchen Cook Book, I feel very lucky to have found both. Have you watched the Youtube video that Vincent made for Sears employees, when they had the Art Collection by Vincent Price? I just watched it, and I adore how enthusiastic he is, describing various pieces of art.
Way late to this party but I just wanted to say thanks for the Vincent Twice (Vincent Twice!) reference! I’m working backwards through your archive and since the first VP mention, my brain went immediately to Sesame Street.
(Also, I love your blog and want to try and recreate a number of these wonders.)
(Also also, somewhere I have a recipe for a Jello mold involving tuna and hot sauce. I feel like I should inflict it upon you.)
Did you get the book "A treasury of great recipes" I have one that I've had sitting around. I'd be inclined to sale to the right buyer if they are interested.
Thanks
I also have a cookbook with the original plastic cover over it. If you find a buyer and they would like another copy please refer them to me. Thank you.
