From Better Homes & Gardens Bread Cookbook, 1963

Tested Recipe!

 ½ cup shortening
 1 cup brown sugar
 2 eggs
 1 ½ cups sifted all-purpose flour
 2 tsp baking powder
 ½ tsp salt
 1 tsp cinnamon
 1 tsp allspice
 ½ tsp cloves
 ½ cup milk
 ½ cup broken walnuts
 3 tbsp chopped candied ginger
 1 cup whipping cream

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Stir in walnuts.

Bake in preheated waffle baker. Fold candied ginger into whipped cream, serve atop waffles.
