And no, we aren’t just drinking heavily because it’s storming out every weekend and our kids have the flu and we feel sorry for ourselves.
*Cough*
We just…are really interested in mixing cocktails right now.
Jell-O Gallery And Museum shout-out! If you haven’t been, you should make plans to go. It’s bliss.
But now, time for cocktails.
“Interesting. You can definitely taste a melon flavor.”
“Really?”
“Yes, but for some reason, it doesn’t quite go together.”
The Verdict: Interesting
From The Tasting Notes –
This was an interesting combo. It started out strong, then went floral, then ended on a bitter note. It had a slightly “off” flavor for some reason, but not too bad. Almost like it was too sour. Maybe we need to go lighter on the lemon juice next time? And it DID taste like melon, even though no melon flavor was added to it!
That sounds a lot like the classic Allen Cocktail: https://mrbostondrinks.com/recipes/allen-cocktail
I’ve found that the cocktail improves if you use something other than a dry gin, like Plymouth or Old Tom.
Gotta try this!
Where is the recipe from? It looks like a coat check tag or something. Gonna make it tonight. We just happen to have Luxardo Maraschino
I stumbled on a person on Instagram selling old fortunes from tabletop fortune-telling machines, and one way the fortunes were delivered were these cards with drink recipes on them. The cards pop open, and inside is a set of “lucky” numbers!
Nice! Thanks, Tim!
Oh, I adore those old fortune-telling machines. I used to go to a shabby little resort town with a guy in the 70’s, and we’d get blasted, walk on the little beach, dance in an open-air dive bar, play skeeball, and put money in the fortune-telling machine. I kept a handful of those cards for decades, in my ‘memory box.’ Sadly lost in a purge – but a whole lot of fun when I got them.

I’m so glad you are doing Vintage Cocktail Friday again!!
