This week we are making some punch!
Sir Charles Punch
Author:
Ingredients
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- 1 wineglass port
- 1/2 wineglass brandy
- 1/2 wineglass curacao
Instructions
- Half fill a large tumbler with shaved ice, then add sugar, port, brandy and curacao. Stir well with a spoon, ornament top with slices of orange, pineapple and split grapes.
We obviously cut down on the measurements of this one, because who is going to drink all that? And our ice melted.
But this smelled really good. It would be great at a party!
“Yum”
The Verdict: Fantastic
From The Tasting Notes –
It’s not really a surprise that brandy goes well with port, but the curacao and the sliced fruit really enhances the flavor of the “punch”. It was syrupy and sweet and very much a punch, and I’m not sure it was the best use of late bottled vintage port. Maybe a tawny would be a better match. But this was good and we will be making this again!
I can’t get over the impression that “Sir Charles punch” ought to involve Charles Barkley socking somebody in the nose.
This sounded like the perfect thing for the day I’d had. It is delicious! I strained the leftover portion and put it into the refrigerator for later. I will be making this one again, as well! Thank you for this great recipe!
“How ’bout a nice Sir Charles Punch?” “Sure!” *SOCKO!!*
My mother has that drink book! I love their version of the Tom Collins (I had to put sugar through a food processor for the superfine it called for).
