This week we used clam juice to make a drink.
This is Clam-Juice Cocktail!
- 4 ozs clam juice
- 1/2 oz catsup
- 1/4 oz lemon juice
- 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
- salt and pepper
- celery salt
- Shake together clam juice, catsup, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper well with ice. Strain into a pre-chilled 6 oz glass. Sprinkle with celery salt.
So, for a change this “cocktail” isn’t for your next party. Tom and I realized recently that we have been neglecting a very important part of mid-century drinking. Or even drinking in general:
The Wake-Up Drink.
Or Wake-Up Juice, for a Back To The Future reference.
Sure, we’ve been giving you guys tons of delicious (and not so delicious) ways to get your drink on, but not may ways to sober up. So, here you go. It’s got tomato and clam juice in it. And it’s endorsed by Playboy.
“How is it?”
“Clam-y”
The Verdict: Clam
From The Tasting Notes –
Actually, this isn’t too bad. The clam flavor really lingers and may make some things a little dicey for a bit, but overall it should do it’s job if you add a couple of good dashes of hot sauce or a heck of a lot of pepper. By itself this is not spicy enough to qualify as a wake-up drink in Tom’s book. And it needs a shot of something, just for that “hair of the dog” kick.
Can you get Clamato Juice at your local grocery store? It's yummy 🙂
Can’t help it but I automatically mentally go to the South Park episode where the vampire kids drank clamato juice. I love the affected way they all said “clamato.”
Love Clamato. When it was still safe, it's how they made bloody marys across the border in Mexican border towns – with key limes. Also very popular in Canada for use in bloody Caesars… Using ketchup is a new one, though…
Oh my. That may be a new favorite “Tom Face” right there! Especially with that non-adjectival verdict: “Clam.” I have the giggles something fierce right now, though that could just be the allergy medication… 😛
I’ve had this, not that bad.
Mottos clamato is readily available in Canada. ..
Mott's that is.
That episode was on last night! I watched it and thought of you. 🙂
I love Clamato, but haven’t bought it for a few years. You refered to it as “when it was safe”. I must be out of the loop. What happened to make it unsafe?
I suspect it’s the Mexican border towns that are now unsafe, not the Clamato.
Canadian here- motts clamato Caesar with tobacco and horseradish- NO ketchup!
