This week we have some GREAT pictures that were sent to me by reader Jason. They are of a dinner party, but not just any dinner party. It’s a Mid-Century Menu themed dinner party!
Jason writes:
Good evening. I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog. A friend of mine showed it to me awhile back and I have loved it immensely. This evening said friend hosted a Mid Century Dinner party where we made recipes from your site and kind of pot lucked it up. It was potluck style with the only rule being the dish had to be a recipe from your website. A good time (and photos) were had and I can say thus far no one has become ill. I hope you keep those recipes from the past coming and once again thank you for everything you do!
How fun is that??? So, Jason included some of the names of the dishes they served and I will link them up with the past posts so you can see the recipe!
Black Magic Chocolate Cake and Lemon Jell-O Cake.
Deviled Tuna and String Bean Casserole
Asparagus Casserole
Not sure what some of these are, but I know I see the Baked Bean Mold and the Frosted Sandwich Loaf.
Some happy people! Look at those faces. The food can’t be that bad, right?
Spam sandwiches! Yum.
Clean plate club, huh? You guys did so much better than what we usually do!
Thanks for the fun pictures, Jason. And thank you to Benjamin, Jeremy, Angela, Holli, Clyde, Kaitlyn, Kathleen and anyone I might of missed. Great job, guys! You made Tom proud and you made me a little misty-eyed. I am so happy that you guys have enjoyed the blog so much!
What the hell was the brown, whipped-meat thing shaped like a boot?
I tell you, I took an MCM jellied salad to our Easter dinner a few months ago – green jello with gherkin pickles (I left out the olives cause my Baba hates them). You should have seen the look on their faces! My nephews said it looked like the jellied cat food salad from Christmas Vacation. They all tried it though!!! So fun that people are having parties with your menu items! Love it.
Not everyone looks happy at that dinner, lol. The pictures remind me so much of holiday meals at an elderly relative’s house, where everyone brought something (bought or home-made) and put it out in the kitchen. Good times long past.
I am so surprised that he got 8 people to come to this. Those are some really good friends.
Child, that frosted sandwich loaf is about to take a tumble! LOL And the green Jello mold is a thing of beauty! Look at the lovely mayonnaise swirls! Yum 😉
Looks like the newt jello went down a treat…
Any guesses what the ‘green fluted mold floating on a sea of white’ could be?
Thank you so much for posting this Ruth! I would like to make sure that Benjamin Bullock and Jeremy Green get all of the credit for this party. They are the one’s that organized and hosted the event. I will ask Jeremy what the lime green jello item is for it was one of the things he made for the dinner (along with the Frosted Ribbon Loaf). Hopefully we will do more of these in the future and keep you all posted of the results, be they good or bad ^_^
The party was so much fun! The green mold is a key lime and pineapple salad with cream cheese and mayonnaise swirls. It was actually very good! I’ll probably make it again.
The “meat boot” was actually some sort of vegetarian concoction Angela brought. It looked so, so scary, but did not taste awful.
Thanks for your lovely site, and thanks for posting our photos!
